Unique, Fun Valentine’s Day Cards for the Class

Valentine’s Day is coming up fast. Usually, I’m the type of parent who stops at the store on the way to school and picks up some pre-packaged cards. I don’t even leave enough time to have my kids write or draw on them at all. We just hand out 20-30 generic cards. No personalized messages (just names), no thought goes into it at all. Don’t Call My Son “The Diabetic”

Lately, I have noticed more and more people refer to my son’s diabetes rather than to him as a person. He has had teachers call him “my diabetic kid”. Nurses have referred to him as “the diabetic one”. At school he is “the one with diabetes”, “diabetes kid” and “the diabetic”.

Finding the Positive

My son was two months shy of his third birthday when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In an instant, we went from everyday normal playing and enjoying life with our family and friends to being completely overwhelmed and bombarded with new and scary information.
